The Therme Erding, with its state-recognized mineral water, offers great variety. This includes steam baths and a tepidarium as well as facial masks and invigorating body scrubs. The adventuresome also get their money’s worth on the galactic slides of the “Galaxy”. The hygiene concept for the world’s largest thermal springs, however, could not be more sophisticated.Daily cleaning in the Galaxy slide paradise consists of five elements: morning disinfection of all stairs, floors and sanitary rooms before the pool opens, regular cleaning of all walls and floors, continuous removal of excess water on all stairs and floors, regular cleaning of the deckchairs and floors in the relaxation area and hourly cleaning of the toilets. Every morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., all contact surfaces or surfaces where visitors go barefoot – i.e. the slides in the slide tower, the floor in front of the slide tower, the resting area as well as the washrooms – are disinfected. The Therme Erding uses a surface disinfectant and lime solvent for the sanitary areas (Milibac). It disinfects and cleans all acid-resistant surfaces, dissolves mineral stains such as lime, removes organic stains like skin fats and is also effective against polyomaviruses and Legionella. When visitors start arriving at 10 a.m., all floors have been reliably disinfected thanks to the short exposure time. The surface disinfectant is used in the Therme Erding because the stairs to the slides are highly non-slip and thus remove dead skin cells. This is a good gathering place for wart viruses, which are especially contagious among children, who are the primary users of the slides. Adults rarely get these viruses – and the use of this product is not required, for example, in saunas. The Galaxy is cleaned with an acidic sanitary cleaner and lime solvent (Milizid), which was developed specifically for cleaning sanitary blocks. This “cleaner for everything wet” removes mineral as well as organic or fatty stains and leaves highly shiny surfaces that need no buffing. According to the provider, the product is up to 99 percent biodegradable and thus particularly material, environmentally and skin friendly. It is applied in the Galaxy with a foam gun, a cleaning machine and manually. Counteracting slippery surfacesAt least two temporary employees regularly remove standing water – from the stairs in the slide tower with the squeegee, and in front of the slide tower below with the machine. If necessary, the cleaners do this several times every hour, on weekends and continuously during the main vacations. This prevents slipping and thus the danger of injuries. For cleaning acid-sensitive surfaces such as marble walls, a neutral oil and fat solvent is used (Petra). It also dissolves stubborn dirt and is material and skin friendly. Fine ceramic tiles that soil quickly are treated with an intensive cleaner for fine stoneware and ceramic flooring (Forex). This gently dissolves deeply ground-in dirt on stone materials. To clean mirrors, marble and stainless steel in the facility, the service provider uses a metal, paint and plastic cleaner (Milostar) with surface protection, which prevents rapid resoiling and protects metals against fast oxidation. For the hygienic cleanliness of the deckchairs in the Galaxy relaxation area, a rapid disinfectant is used (Desifor Quick Plus). It disinfects all areas that require fast penetration and drying, without residue. These are the ideal properties for cleaning deckchairs – with almost only one wipedown – and rapidly making them ready-to-use again. Sauna hygiene in all situationsSauna-lovers find no better place for well-being and relaxation. But it’s obvious that these must be absolutely clean and hygienic. What must be done? There are two basic types of saunas – those used at around 90 degrees Celsius, and steam and light saunas, which are used at temperatures of around 60 degrees Celsius. The temperature determines the hygiene requirements. Microorganisms have no chance in saunas that are regularly heated to 90 degrees Celsius. The heat kills them completely via thermal destruction. A disinfectant is definitely not necessary in these saunas. To clean the tiles and surfaces (usually raw wood) after the end of use and when they are cool, in order to remove body and cream residues, a neutral oil and fat solvent (for example, Petra) is completely adequate. The product is odorless, free of chlorine, salt, phosphorus and acetic acids, and dissolves body fats as well as water-soluble body salts because it is applied as a concentrate diluted with water. It also works reliably on materials like stainless steel, aluminum, stone, porcelain or synthetics. On the other hand, saunas that are only heated to 60 degrees Celsius – such as steam and light saunas, which are intended to positively affect users through the use of color and lighting – have other hygiene requirements. In such saunas, it is not sufficient to merely remove body oils and salts; disinfectants are also required to remove microorganisms because they can easily survive 60 degrees Celsius. These disinfectants must also work on such varied materials as stone or plastic, which are often used for furniture in steam saunas and light saunas. Such a surface disinfectant (for example Desifor-forte AF) disinfects and cleans in one process. An alternative is the use of alcohol-based ready-to-use rapid disinfectants, but only on small surfaces and cool cabins. Neutral oil and fat solvents are also recommended for saunas that are only warmed to 60 degrees Celsius for cleaning dirt off of the entire inventory; a surface disinfectant is only used on specific areas. Additionally, a cleaner is used for window and glass surfaces in the sauna. A lime solvent should also be used weekly to remove lime scale from seams and indentations of floor structures.
