In case of absence for health reasons, you have to change your voicemail greeting accordingly and set up an ‘out of office’ reply to that effect. Unfortunately, we are not able to completely eliminate all the work pressures that come after business hours, but we are getting there. The way I see it, the important thing is to show managers and co-workers that you are behind them 100% percent. In times when customer demands keep rising and becoming more complex, this is a brave step. But it’s also the only way to protect our people from unnecessary pressure. On one of our accounts, our people were clearly and continually exceeding the threshold of the endurable, so we didn’t renew the contract. The mental and physical wellbeing of our people is of paramount importance to us. My suggestion for preventing burnout is to find an activity to counterbalance work. Whether it’s sports or meeting up with friends, it’s really up to the individual. Just one rule: when you sit down for a drink or a meal, leave your phone in your pocket.
